The International Society of Design Thinking was initiated
in August 2016 by Stephen Melamed, FIDSA an American
master of Design Thinking and a senior industrial design
expert. The original intention of ISDT was to establish a
platform for people to learn, share and practice Design
Thinking methods.
Currently, the International Society of Design Thinking
has attracted many Design Thinking experts and consultants
from the Interdisciplinary Product Development Program at
the University of Illinois at Chicago, Stanford
University, School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua
University, Munich School of Management,
Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) Munich, Ariel
University, Zhejiang University Technology Venture Program
(ZTVP) as well as other nationally recognized institutions
of higher education. The International Society of Design
Thinking explores and creates a global service network by
attracting a large number of Design Thinking professionals
from all walks of life to assist more companies,
universities and individuals adopt and deploy advanced
Design Thinking concepts and methods to achieve the goal
of interdisciplinary and cross-industry innovation.
The rapid development of technology and its
significance to fostering innovation has primed the ISDT
to continue to promote a human-centered focus in order to
execute humanized design, improving the quality of
people‘s everyday lives. This is the core focus of
International Society of Design Thinking. By establishing,
compiling, and promoting the standardization of Design
Thinking theories and methods, the International Society
of Design Thinking hopes to help more organizations and
individuals find novel ways to improve society, understand
the design of human needs, and create new products,
systems and services that both meet and exceed human
expectations.
The International Society of Design
Thinking is not only committed to disseminating the ideas
and methods of Design Thinking, but to also take a
leadership role in the global launch of Design Thinking
training and certification. At present, the Design
Thinking Certification of International Society of Design
Thinking is organized into four levels.
Vision:
To provide a platform for people who love Design
Thinking to learn, to share and to practice.
MISSION:
1. Facilitate and promote (user-centered,
empathetic) innovation through Design Thinking methods;
2. Provide professional support and expert resources for companies
and academic institutions to implement Design Thinking methods;
3. Create communication, learning and certification platforms to
support the new wave of Design Thinking enthusiasts and
practitioners;
4. Combine Design Thinking and other ‘best practices’ innovation
methods to enrich the theory and practice of Design Thinking and
